Photonics-Electronics Convergence
Photonics-Electronics Convergence (PEC) has attracted attention in recent years as a technology to achieve miniaturization, high performance, and low power consumption while optimizing the roles of photonics and electronics devices. Practical applications of this convergence have already begun with the advent of compact transceivers for optical communication.
At NTT Innovative Devices, we have commercialized COSA (Coherent Optical Sub Assembly), which consists of miniaturized integrated optical transmitter/receiver with silicon-photonics technology and digital signal processing LSI technologies developed over many years. Furthermore, we have been developing commercialized co-packaged devices integrated with a digital signal processing LSI.
We will continue to develop PEC-related technologies and actively develop products that meet the requirements of our customers in the growing areas of data centers and computing industries in addition to the conventional optical communication applications.
Photonics
NTT Innovative Devices has been developing and commercializing optical communications devices since 1995. As a result, we have made a number of achievements such as promoting the standardization of AWG and developing 10Gbps direct modulation uncooled DFB laser modules, the first in the world in an InGaAs device. In the future, in addition to expanding communications products such as the various optical transceiver modules and AWG compound boards based on passive and active optical device technologies that we have developed up until now, we intend to actively provide products that respond to market demands in non-communications related fields such as light source equipment for new wavelengths.

DFB: Distributed Feed-back
Broadband network
Broadband communication services are spreading rapidly, and in keeping this we are steadily progressing with improvements in the broadband network, starting with the opticalization of access systems and increasing the capacity of metro and long haul systems. Based on our core technologies, NTT Innovative Devices provides a variety of products from communication control LSIs for LAN and WAN to 10Gbps and 40Gbps ultra high speed devices and modules. Notably, we are aiming to rapidly realize new optical network equipment employing ultra high speed device technologies and cutting edge optical components. We hope to achieve high quality, low price system LSIs for information appliance equipment and ultra high frequency or low power consumption wireless LSIs.

WAN: Wide Area Network
Digital video
Starting with the MPEG-2 LSI "VASA", which has become the de facto standard in the broadcasting and telecommunication systems, NTT Innovative Devices is working to upgrade the consumer LSI line-up and develop products using H.264/AVC next-generation imagery compression technology. With the expansion of digital broadcasting, these LSIs are being used by a wide range of domestic and foreign electrical appliance manufacturers and broadcasting equipment manufacturers. We are also developing miniature and lightweight codec equipment and monitory system products. These products are being put to a wide variety of uses by domestic and foreign broadcasting stations, telecommunication carriers, local authorities and system integrators.
